Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ: FAQ
I sincerely believe everyone can benefit from actively participating in therapy. It’s a great way to learn about yourself, develop safe coping strategies, reduce distorted thinking, and foster emotional resilience. My clients report higher levels of confidence, reduced stress, healthier, more satisfying relationships, even improved physical health.
I believe quality mental health care should be accessible to all. I am proud to offer a sliding scale for a limited number of self pay clients. Eligibility is based on income, need, and household size.
Our first face to face meeting is referred to as an intake, and is generally 55-60 minutes long. During this meeting we will discuss some of your presenting concerns, and collaboratively form a plan to optimize your well-being. I will answer any questions you may have about therapy, my treatment philosophy, and our sessions together. I will also explore and address any concerns you may have.
Each person is unique and responds to coping strategies differently. Some people feel restored after a day at the beach. Others might feel good as new after a spin class or after binging a comedy and ordering takeout. Some replenishing and centering activities worth exploring include: exercising, meditating, spending time in nature, journaling, reading, painting, dancing, and playing with animals.
Be honest and authentic. Try not to worry too much about coming across as “negative” or “weak”. I will never judge you for voicing frustrations, or sharing your feelings- they are valid. If you feel like crying- cry! I will support you while you process your feelings. Many benefit from keeping a counseling journal - this is a great way to reflect on topics brought up during therapy. You can also make notes of anything you’d like to discuss in upcoming sessions. Lastly, I strongly encourage the individuals I work with to engage in self care after their session. Therapy is hard work and can be emotionally depleting. Relieve stress and tension by practicing self-compassion, or engaging in a hobby or interest.
